Grievance Mechanisms in Tourism

In 2022, the Roundtable Human Rights in Tourism has with support of the consultancy Sustainable Links conducted a desktop research, interviews and a survey on grievance mechanisms (GM) in the tourism sector. The aim was both to understand what systems already exist (in tourism but also in other sectors), which challenges and potentials tourism companies see, as well as what support they might need.

In a 3-hours interactive practitioners’ workshop on “Way forward with grievance mechanisms in the tourism sector” on 10 November we presented our research findings, introduced the operationalisation of “effectiveness” criteria for grievance mechanisms, presented company good practice, esp. on internal processes and on integration of grievance mechanisms into supply chain management, and discussed, what companies need to move ahead and how the Roundtable could support.
