The Swiss Confederation is a constitutional republic with a federal structure. Legislative authority resides in a bicameral parliament (Federal Assembly). Federal Assembly elections are considered free and fair. Parliament elects the executive leadership every four years. The government took credible steps to identify and punish officials who may have committed human rights abuses.
