Cambodia Cambodia is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary government however, having banned the main opposition party in 2017, the ruling Cambodian People’s Party won all 125 National Assembly seats in the 2018 national election, turning the country into a de facto one-party state with a government that regularly acts in an authoritarian manner. The prime minister remained in office since 1985. International observers, including foreign governments and international and domestic nongovernmental organizations, criticized the election as neither free nor fair and not representative of the will of the people. There were reports that members of the security forces committed abuses. The government did not take credible steps or action to identify and punish officials who may have committed human rights abuses.The overall score indicates that there are severe risks of potential human rights violations in this country.
