The article sheds light on workforce equity for porters in the trekking tourism industry, the role of tourists and the role of travel companies. Providing five recommendations for travel companies to become the allies that are needed in order to create equitable working conditions for porters, the author highlights that a long-term commitment to creating Workforce Equity should no longer be treated as an option. Instead, the author calls it a must-do for both consumers and companies in order to create a sustainable and equitable trekking tourism industry.
