Science-based climate targets as the basis for a corporate climate strategy

Discussion Paper

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time and is now more than ever a major concern in the global economy. The discussion paper provides context and covers challenges and questions related to science-based climate targets as the basis for a corporate climate strategy. However, in order to develop an understanding of what science-based climate targets would mean for a company in the context of developing a climate strategy, they should first become familiar with the available methods for science-based target setting and the assumptions and scientific foundation behind them. Therefore, the paper gives general recommendations and sheds light on possible solutions and established methodologies. Ultimately, it provides examples of science-based targets from German companies and concludes with an outlook on future developments.
